PRUNING IN FULL SWING

PRUNING IN FULL SWING

It’s all go at the moment, the Vineyard Vixens are off to a flying start and they’ve been very busy in the March sunshine.

The three major tasks for March are pruning the vines, pulling out last year’s old canes and then tying down the main fruiting cane ready for the bud burst, likely to be in early April.

A warm early spring means an earlier bud burst, so the race is on.

Vixens Hannah and Steph are cracking on with pruning both vineyards (nearly there, guys!). They have the important job of selecting which will be the main fruiting cane on each vine for this year, while the rest of the team follow closely behind to pull out the old canes from last year, which is quite the workout.

It’s all going like clockwork, and we’ll be done by early April, no problem. Well done Vixens, brilliant as always.

Now we just need the buds to hold off a bit longer and not burst too early, we’re still on frost watch...
